Three-week American: Days 16/17 – Feeling the Heat in Washington, D.C.

The third day in Washington DC took us outside the city to the other part of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum – to the “hangar of the nation”. There are also quite many unique and special aircraft on display there, like the SR-71 Blackbird and the Space Shuttle. And the exhibition is constantly being updated and new planes added.

For the last full day in the US’ capital I was looking forward to my personal highlight of the visit – the Newseum. But unfortunately, the electricity was out in most of the museum and government district so there wasn’t much to do in the museum.

Because the power outage would not be fixed until Sunday, we decided to look at some of the other main tourist attractions – the Capitol and the White House. With temperatures soaring to nearly 40°C in one of the biggest heat waves of the US history (or so “FOX news” said…) it was very uncomfortable to be outside, especially in the sun for a too long time and we went back to the hotel in the afternoon.
